Building Jigsaw Design Studio
A Story of Frustration, Passion, and Purpose
In 2007, Jigsaw Design Studio was born—not out of careful planning or years of experience—but from sheer frustration. I was running a property company selling homes abroad and had hired a web designer to build our website. What followed was nine months of delays, poor communication, and subpar work. By the end, I was left with a website that barely worked and a lot of unanswered questions.
I couldn’t shake the thought: Surely, there’s a better way to do this.
Then one day, I stumbled across a small advert in a local paper: “Learn Website Design – Reading University, Thursdays 6–8 PM, 6 weeks.” With no background in design or tech, I decided to give it a shot.
The course was simple: learn the basics and create a website to showcase your skills. By week three, the task was clear—choose a topic for your site. While others chose hobbies like classic cars, Sports clubs etc I had a different idea. Why not make my website about building websites?
That’s when everything clicked. I brainstormed company names, jotting down about 30 ideas. The next day, one name stood out: Jigsaw Design Studio. It felt right—representing creativity, collaboration, and bringing pieces together to create something bigger.
By week four, I felt ready to put myself out there. Armed with little more than determination and a couple of simple websites I’d made for friends, I started knocking on doors.
One of those doors belonged to Bar Billiards Limited, a company with a long history of crafting beautiful bar billiard tables. I explained what I could do, shared my enthusiasm, and they took a chance on me. They became my first paying client, and their trust lit the spark that turned Jigsaw Design Studio into the thriving branding agency it is today.
